Wonder Towards Easter with The Strathspey Kirks
🕊️ Monday (Jesus Clears the Temple)
📖 Mark 11:15–19 – Jesus overturns tables in the temple, calling for true worship.
On reaching Jerusalem, Jesus entered the temple courts and began driving out those who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money-changers and the benches of those selling doves and would not allow anyone to carry merchandise through the temple courts. And as he taught them, he said, ‘Is it not written: “My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations”? But you have made it “a den of robbers”.’
The chief priests and the teachers of the law heard this and began looking for a way to kill him, for they feared him, because the whole crowd was amazed at his teaching.
When evening came, Jesus and his disciples went out of the city.
📝 Reflection:
Jesus’ righteous anger revealed His hearts for worship, a worship that was honest, holy, and unhindered. The temple—meant to be a house of prayer—had become a marketplace, a distraction from true communion with God and Jesus knew something had to change.
I wonder what about us? What tables might Jesus want to overturn in our own lives—habits, priorities, attitudes—that have quietly crept into sacred space?
Today’s wonder is not about guilt, but about invitation: Jesus wants to make room for deeper intimacy with God. But clearing space often means disruption.
Prayer:
Jesus, come into the temple of our heart. Overturn what doesn’t belong. Clear away anything that keeps us from truly worshipping You. Amen.
